New OPERA project data again indicate that neutrinos travel faster than light

New data project OPERA again noted that the neutrinos travel faster than light, according to a statement of the Institut de Physique Nucleaire de Lyon (France).

Autiero Dario, one of the architects of the experiment, said that as of the latest tests, most team members who had refused to sign the original document because they wanted more time to wait for new results have already been added to the confirmation.

One of them is Caren Hagner, University of Hamburg, Germany. Hagner said that not only improved the accuracy of the experiment, but statistical analysis is more powerful, and has also been replicated by different groups within OPERA, not only by the initial team.

Last September, OPERA made ​​public the results of a series of measurements in the LHC in Geneva, which indicated that neutrinos could travel faster than light.

These results run counter to the well-established special theory of relativity of Albert Einstein, which provides light as the ultimate cosmic speed limit. Therefore, many scientists outside the project have been skeptical with them, and demand new independent testing, to support the results.

The leading candidate to perform such tests would be the MINOS particle accelerator, near Chicago, USA. In 2007, detected MINOS neutrino anomaly similar to that found by the LHC last September, but was ruled to be considered an error.

Works OPERA neutrino beam produced by a particle accelerator at CERN, near Geneva. These beams travel about 730 miles to the Gran Sasso, near L'Aquila, Italy. Project managers expect these new results put an end to the uncertainties.
